Ngugi Wa Thiong'o: I Am Not Dead Again! Stop The Rumours!

Rumours have been circulating on social media about the sudden death of Prof.Ngugi Wa Thiong’o the writer of renowned books; I Will Marry When I Want, the River Between among others and arguably the best author Kenya has ever made.

However, Mukoma Wa Ngugi son to Prof.Ngugi Wa Thiong’o and her daughter Wanjiku, have refuted the rumors about their father’s death.

The claims surfaced on social media like bush fire last evening, that even saw Kiambu Governor elect-Kimani Wamatangi, share his message of condolence on Facebook, that was later pulled down.

This is not the first time social media was awash with messages of condolences and screenshots of a fake Twitter account peddling the lie that the The Upright Revolution author had passed.

“Not again with the death rumors! Baba, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o is here - talking to him as I write this. To be sure, death is inevitable for all of us - but there is no need to invite it sooner.” His Facebook post reads.

Wanjiku also dismissed the rumours by saying, “It is just another rumor! All is well!”

Prof.Ngugi Wa Thiong’o is a legendary writer who rose from Mt.Kenya during pre-colonial period crafted his own space to become among the best writers not only in Africa but in the world with over 70 titles on his name.

Beyond writing, he has mentors and inspired many celebrated writers right from here in Kenya such as the Late Prof.Walibora, David Mulwa, Abdi Latif Abdallah among others.

Well, in the words of Mukoma Ngugi, not again with the death rumours. Even though death is inevitable for sure it can wait because professor has a big assignment to do for Kenyans e.g., directing education reforms here in Kenya and particularly in embracing indigenous language in literary works.

Live Long Guru….
